How does the sale of a boat with the Polish flag take place?

Any contract for the sale of a Polish-flagged boat will be managed by the seller wherever he wants.
The fact that the boat is registered in Poland does not affect the sale of the boat. It can be notarized or it can be a private agreement between the seller and the buyer. The Polish government is not involved. Once the boat has been registered and if it is sold, we can change ownership if the buyer wishes to keep it, or we can deregister it if the buyer wishes to register it on another flag state.
Note that the Polish flag registration is NOMINAL and that in case of sale of a Polish flagged boat, if the new owner wants to stay with this flag he will have to request the activation of a new license in his name.

Documents required for Polish flag registration

MMSI Radio License - for VHF, AIS, Radar and EPIRB

It is important to have an MMSI license on board your vessel, so we strongly advise our customers to obtain this when applying for boat title deed.
The MMSI license is mandatory if there is a fixed VHF device on board.
Having an MMSI license on board allows you to raise safety standards in case of problems and distress requests at sea and avoid problems when you are controlled by local authorities.
Each country has different requirements to receive an MMSI radio license, so choose your flag country and check the details for that specific country on the country page.

  • Certificate valid for 10 years
  • International radio call sign
  • For VHF, AIS, radar and EPIRB
  • Official Polish MMSI
  • Valid worldwide
  • Only with Polish registration
  • Issued in 2-3 weeks
